چکیده

Toxic purpura occurring in persons who have previously been sensitized by drug-taking often manifests itself with great rapidity in a matter of a few hours. Thrombocytopenia which may accompany this type of purpura can also occur in a very short time. If the natural life-span of platelets is about five days (Lawrence and Valentine, 1947; Hirsch and Gardner, 1952) then this rapid onset of thrombocytopenia seems to indicate

Acute thrombocytopenic purpura in relation to the use of drugs.

The relation of acute thrombocytopenic purpura (TP) to the use of drugs was investigated in a case-control study conducted in eastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and the Philadelphia region; 62 cases over the age of 16 years with acute onset and with a rapid recovery were compared with 2,625 hospital controls. After control for confounding by multiple logistic regression, use of the following ...

Thrombocytopenic purpura due to quinidine. II. Serologic mechanisms.

By FREDERICK G. BOLTON O UR KNOWLEDGE of the probable mechanisms of t-hrombocytopenia in cases of thrombocyt-openic punpura due to acquired sensitivity to drugs derives largely from the work of Acknoyd’4 on patient-s who developed purpura after taking sedormid. He showed that agglutination amid lysis of platelets in the i)lOod of these patients was caused by adding sedormid to their blood in vi...

Report of two unrelated cases of Familial Thrombotic Thrombocytopeic Purpura

Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) is a rare microangiopathic disorder characterised by the pentad of microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenic purpura, neurologic abnormalities, fever, and renal disease. Decreased production and/or activity of ADAMTS13 is the cause of this disorder. ADAMTS13 is a metalloproteinase which is responsible of the cleavage of high weight multimers o...

Study of the factors that cause specific transformation in cultures of lymphocytes from patients with quinine- and quinidine-induced immune thrombocytopenia.

Quinine- or quinidine-induced thrombocytopenic purpura is caused by synthesis of an immunoglobulin (Ig)G antibody, which caused platelet damage in the presence of the offending drug. The nature of the antigenic stimulus has been examined by measuring incorporation of [3H]thymidine into DNA during lymphocyte transformation to blast cells in the presence of the drug. Although patients' lymphocyte...
